At present, ex-military families are allowed healthcare at government expense for the rest of their lives (children up to age 26). This allows former military a huge financial advantage over others and in today's climate of budget deficits, stopping this practice after five years makes sense.
Most ex-military personnel get second careers once they are out and can afford their own insurance, just as we all do.
Exemptions should be made for widows/widowers and children of presently active service persons. These men and women should receive benefits for ten years and their children should receive benefits until they are age 26.
