As Maj. Hasan was massacring soldiers at Ft. Hood, one brave soldier, Capt. John Gaffaney, threw a chair at him. Spc. Logan Burnett tried to throw a folding table at the killer. Both men were shot. Other soldiers were forced to hide and lock their doors, defenseless against this killer. They were forced to these extremes because they had no means to defend themselves: most military bases are gun-free zones.
These are the men and women we trust with guns to defend this country. We should trust them to carry guns to defend themselves. This policy makes no sense, whatever your feelings are about guns in our society, generally.
