End a national embarrassment and repatriate the prisoners held without charge at Guantanamo Bay to their home countries

Created by M.M. on April 15, 2013

The current force-feeding of hunger strikers in Guantanamo Bay represents a doubling down on the wager that our human rights abuses will be forgiven or forgotten in the fight for homeland security. Any intelligence we could have gleaned from these men has been wrung dry by now. The possible risk that some of these detainees are legitimate threats to our security and might reoffend is now outweighed by the real risk to our own integrity. History will judge our actions in Guantanamo as a national shame. It is not too late for us to judge for ourselves and to take action to do right - if not by these men, then by our own standards of justice, morality, and ultimately, our own humanity.
