End the NSA Prism program as well as the broad collection of phone records.

The recent revelations concerning the NSA's Prism program are startling and worrisome to say the least. This program is a heinous abuse of power. Regardless of its supposed legality, it is both immoral and un-American at its core. No matter how good the intentions of the current administration may or may not be, this is a tool that any despot in the future could abuse. We are a country that values freedom, democracy and justice above all else. The Prism program and the other NSA surveillance programs that were recently brought to light pose a fundamental threat to those values. We cannot live in the shadow of 9/11 forever. 12 years on, we cannot let the fear of that day dictate our lives. This is the deprivation of rights and values that are fundamental to this nation.
