The US government should discontinue tax payer-funded support for the oil industry financially and militarily to allow innovations in efficient, renewable energy. Those who use more oil should have to pay for their share while those who decrease their oil consumption through energy efficiency and use of better energy alternatives should not have to continue paying oil taxes. Instead of using the military to strengthen our dependence on foreign oil, that focus needs to shift towards sustainable energy that will reduce the nation's energy bill.
