The State of Israel has frequently released Palestinian prisoners as part of the peace process with the Palestinians at the explicit or tacit pressure of the international community. Continuing this policy is dangerous. Terrorists learn that they can kidnap Israelis in the hopes of extracting prisoners, and the convicted murderers learn that their actions are ultimately rewarded by the broad international community. Furthermore, the victims’ families must live knowing that these convicted murderers have been released. But above all, these exchanges show the world that justice for those murdered in cold blood is something that can be negotiated.
We therefore petition the Obama administration to take a firm stance that Palestinian prisoner exchanges can never be a part of any peace process.
