The IRS categorizes certain medical purchases as qualifying expenses for tax purposes and HSA/FSA reimbursement. Prescriptions for erectile dysfunction and over-the-counter purchases of condoms are both considered qualifying health expenses under IRS Publications 502 and 969.
Yet there are NO TAX PROVISIONS for feminine hygiene products, whether purchased OTC or with a prescription.
HuffPo estimates that an American woman will spend $18,000 on menstruation-related costs over her lifetime (05/18/15). Every little bit helps. Classifying OTC feminine hygiene products as qualifying health expenses will help American women stretch our dollars.
Give American women a break, and end the PINK TAX on PERIODS in Pubs 502 and 969. Include OTC menstruation products as a qualifying health expense!
