The War on Drugs is a failure and has been since its conception. Prohibition of anything does not work. People will continue to use substances as they as supposed free citizens, see fit. The War on Drugs is costing us BILLIONS of dollars each year and for what? The highest incarceration rates in the WORLD and NO diminishing effects of actual drug use.
Not only is this program flaccid in its effectiveness; the Federal Government has ZERO right to tell people what they can and cannot do with their own bodies! Plants, fungi and other substances that grow naturally on this earth and are PROVEN significantly less dangerous than cigarettes and alcohol have NO business being on the controlled substance list.
The money can be much better spent on education, infrastructure, job creation, etc.
