End the practice of granting federally elected officials "retirement benefits" and "lifetime medical insurance"

Created by M.R. on November 13, 2012

Congress routinely votes itself raises. Metaphorically, this is putting the Fox in charge of the Henhouse. It has long been governmental policy (if not in Statute) to grant life-time retirement benefits and five-star health benefits to elected officials from all three branches of the federal government.

It is the position of this petitioner that politics is NOT a career, nor should it be characterized as one. We as a nation should thank our elected officials for their service, and they should return to their former status as private citizens who re-enter their former careers.

This practice is clearly not what the Founding Fathers intended, and ceasing to do so would save the Treasury untold millions.
