Eighty-two million insured Americans are at risk for pre-existing conditions. The current legislation ends the exclusion in 2014 but that isn't soon enough.Working Americans may have to choose between food, electricity and rent or paying their pre-existing condition supplemental insurance. A pre-existing premium for an individual in Texas with an income of $42,898 is $853. After taxes, a modest mortgage and the premium that's $1,282 for everything else: food, clothing, utilities, fuel, car insurance, and pocket money. Add in another adult and the exclusion doubles to nearly $1,900. I've asked HHS Secretary Sibelius as well as Ann-Marie De Parle for a response but to date nothing. Join me in pressing the Congress and President for an early end to pre-existing conditions.
