Due to its hindering effects on the economy, the penny should be removed, because, in part, it has been shown that the value of a penny is lesser than the cost to produce said penny (last checked, ~1.8 cents/penny). This would be simple; all that would have to be done is to stop minting them. People pay in exact change, and then the pennies are returned and melted down, eventually eliminating them entirely. This already happened with the half cent in 1857, as the value became too low. As for the dealings of exact change, It is simple. You can charge the exact amount from a bank account through method of a debit card or credit card, but if one pays in cash, simply round to the nearest five. This can greatly assist the U.S. economy, and has already been done by many other countries.
