Lead ammunition used for hunting waterfowl is illegal in the United States. However, using lead ammunition for other animals is not. The reason lead ammunition should be illegal for hunting any kind of animal is because the remains it leaves causes negative effects in the environment. For example, a single shotgun pellet is capable of causing organ failure. Such organ failure can lead to blindness, paralysis of the lungs and/or intestines, and brain damage. If the organism survives, it is more likely to die of predation or a car crash. Therefore, lead ammunition should be banned.
