End the production of the one cent coin (penny)

Created by R.S. on September 23, 2011

The one cent coin, or penny, has become obsolete in our modern world. It is now more of an annoyance than legal tender. Most businesses will not even accept payments in pennies. It also now costs the government more to produce a penny than it is worth. Some countries around the world have already adopted this practice and none have had a negative result.

We the people ask that the production of the one cent coin be discontinued and pricing for goods and services be rounded to zero or five and the money saved because of not producing the penny can be used toward more pressing needs within the United States.
