Ending the production of the one dollar bill would save the government $5.6 billion dollars over the next 30 years.
In this time period when national debt reigns, anything the government can do to save money is worth it.
Over a billion dollar coins are sitting in government vaults, uselessly taking up taxpayer money to store and guard. Simply ending the production of the dollar bill and putting the dollar coin into greater use would rid the government of this need.
Not to mention, a dollar coin would last 20 times as long as the paper dollar, and they can be melted down and recoined when the time comes.
Other goverments, such as Canada, have succeeded in doing this. Why can't we?
Bottom line: We petition the Obama administration to stop the production of the paper one dollar bill.
