End all government subsidies, loans, and promotion of electric vehicles. Subsidies for battery research should continue with the goal of achieving a battery energy density of at least 25% that of diesel fuel, and an emissions footprint no greater than that of a diesel vehicle in the first 25,000 of service. Further, government should refrain from distorting markets through high-risk loans, grants, rebates, and other expenditures of taxpayer funds for EV manufacture.
Battery powered vehicles for highway use are not technically appropriate at this time due to high cost, long charging times, limited range, and environmental impact. The claim that they are zero/low emissions is false as diesel fueled vehicles have an overall lower emissions footprint than pure electric vehicles.
