End Recognition of Columbus Day as a National Holiday

Created by Z.H. on April 18, 2013

We, the citizens of The United States of America, petition the Obama Administration to end recognition of Columbus Day as a National Holiday. Columbus Day should not be recognized as a National Holiday because it is offensive to the Indigenous Peoples of America, who are the true discoverers of the Americas. Christopher Columbus was, a murderer and slave trader, and dedicating a day in honor of him promotes a symbol of intolerance and racism in a country that stands for equality.
