Subsidized corn production has resulted in the following: Obesity epidemic due to high fructose corn syrup in nearly every processed food, explosion of health care costs due to obesity related illnesses, cattle feed lots which cause pollution issues from the waste and health issues due to over-use of antibiotics, industrialized/factory chicken and pig farms due to artificially low corn prices, environmental issues due to over-use of synthetic fertilizers on the corn and soybean crops, displacement of small family farms that had diversified production, detriment of marine life due to fertilizer run-off into watersheds - leading to high cost of fish, crab & oysters (far healthier than beef), erosion of soil due to over-production, wasted energy to produce ethanol & pollution from pesticides.
