Affirmative Action was a great and necessary program when first initiated by President Kennedy in the 1960s. For many years it served the necessary purpose of combatting racial discrimination. However, Affirmative Action had a time and a place. Now discrimination is much less of a problem than it was 53 years ago. Meanwhile, college admissions acceptance rates are at record lows, and declining every year. Students work extremely hard to be admitted to these schools, regardless of race.
While it is true that some kids have a natural disadvantage that should be accounted for, that does not mean that a white kid with two educated parents should have his achievements diminished due to factors he cannot control.
Everyone should be assessed as an individual, based on their accomplishments.
