Since 2002, the New York Police Department has and continues to surveil Muslim communities, leaders, mosques, organizations, businesses, student groups, and individuals. The NYPD has done this through the use of video cameras, police informants, police rakers, and mapping communities. It has kept records of the daily lives of Muslim individuals with details of their private life. Muslims in New York and its surrounding areas do not have safe spaces. They cannot comfortably preform the tasks of their daily life without feeling like they are being watched. They cannot comfortably live in their communities and attend their mosques. The surveillance done by the NYPD is unconstitutional and violates the rights of Muslim Americans and it must be put to an end immediately.
