End Survivior Benefits for Divorced Couples and increase Social Security's Solvency.

Created by B.B. on January 03, 2013

The current Social Security System is the backbone of America's Retirement. Currently, this system is under attack by many politicians, organizations, and individuals. While we acknowledge that Social Security is not a driver of our National Debt, the system has fundamental flaws as the Baby Boomer Generation retires.

The current Social Security System allows individuals who have been divorced from their partners for a substantial period of time to collect Social Security Survivor's Benefits. As a generic example. A couple could be divorced for 50 years and upon the death of one individual, the other will begin collecting Social Security Survivor's Benefits. Even if the couple has not seen or spoken to each other during those 50 years. This is fundamentally flawed and should be revised.
