Churches enjoy tax exempt status due to their unique position in American society. In the wake of the Orlando nightclub shooting several pastors have very publicly rejoiced at the deaths of the Pulse victims, and overtly equated LGBTQ persons with child molestors. These include Steven Anderson, pastor of the Faithful Word Baptist Church of Phoenix, AZ and Roger Jiminez of Verity Baptist Church of Sacramento, CA.
Churches whose pastors engage in this sort of hate speech should be investigated, and if their pastors or organizations are determined to be guilty of inciting hatred of any group of Americans, their tax-exempt status should be revoked.
