Our national political discussion has become increasingly divisive, contentious, and polarized to the point where our President is unable to pass sensible legislation due to congressional obstructionism. One of the key reasons why this is so is because We the People are stuck with a Two Party System which itself is the unavoidable outcome of electing our President and other officials using a Winner Take All vote.
Our Winner Take All vote allows Third Parties -- naively and with the best of intentions -- to spoil the chances of the closer of the Two Party candidates.
I propose we replace Winner Take All voting at the Federal Level with Instant Runoff Voting (aka the Alternative Vote). Implementing such an easy change would ban the Spoiler Effect and deliver voters more power to choose.
