The recent experience of David Eckert has highlighted an abuse by law enforcement officials of using unwilling rectum examination to search for illicit narcotics. Generally considered sexual assault when perpetrated by private citizens, these practices are ethically dubious and easily fall under the restrictions of the 4th Amendment banning unreasonable searches and seizures. To search a person's most intimate cavities (vaginal too) creates tremendous emotional and potentially physical harm and has no business being conducted in country which values liberty and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
The Obama administration needs to come out against this practice, end its use by the DEA, and promise to nominate to Supreme Court justices who understand the meaning of reasonable
