"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
This is exactly what the first amendment says. Note the part about "... or abridging the freedom of speech..." and, yet, there are a variety of local, state, and federal laws, as well as Supreme Court decisions that prevent me from renting a billboard, putting a gun owner's face on it, and printing the words "LYING, MURDEROUS, SHIT SACK."
Clearly, the founders intended for me to be able to say whatever I want whenever I want to, by whatever medium, and it's time to eliminate all laws against libel and slander.
