Some farmers use ammonium based fertilizers that used ammonium nitrate as the main ingredient. This is terrible for the soil and has been shown that in a no till situations a “acid roof” can form. This acid roof is the top 1-2 inches of soil that has a high concentration of nitrogen. This concentration leads to an increase of up to 2 pH levels below the deeper soil’s pH. This decreases yield and leads to unhealthy plants
