Bottled water is wasteful: it costs hundreds of times more than tap water, generates excessive packaging that is not often recycled, and is no more pure than American tap water.
A recent photo depicted the First Lady and Dr. Biden meeting with children, and each had a single-use plastic water bottle. Why not a pitcher of filtered water and glasses? DC tap water is more stringently tested than commercial bottled water and much cheaper -- $10 compared to $1,000 for 1,000 gallons.
The nearby Anacostia River is heavily polluted with trash, and plastic bottles are the largest culprit. Neighborhoods and waterways across the country -- as well as the oceans -- suffer from this pollution, damaging the environment and quality of life.
