At the time the Electoral college was devised, technology was limited, and the best way to ensure accuracy in an election was to send emissaries to represent the state's votes. However, with modern technology, this is no longer necessary.
Instead, the popular vote should be the only count that matters. Every individual gets a single vote, and each vote is counted on it's own. In this way, rather than each State being counted for an individual candidate, each person's vote goes directly towards their particular candidate. In this way, every voter makes their voice heard, rather than simply being lumped within their State's results.
