It's time for the US to stop squandering billions of tax dollars and putting US citizens in prison. Drug use is a social issue, not a criminal one. Sufficient frameworks are present in the justice system for punishing those who do harm under the influence of drugs, such as alcohol. Stop spending tax dollars on pursuing drug users and sellers, which only incites border violence and ruins American families. Re-direct funds to social programs that help rehabilitate users. Release non-violent drug offenders from prisons and stop wasting tax dollars on incarcerating them. Legalize, regulate and tax marijuana. Create an advisory board for other common drugs. The revenue swing from wasting money on drug enforcement and imprisonment to collecting taxes is part of responsibly balancing our budget.
