End the War on Drugs

Created by L.B. on December 23, 2012

Being that the War on Drugs has been a costly, inefficient failure, we petition our leadership to declare it as such, and bring it to an end.

This war has eroded the integrity and dignity of our poorest communities by locking in a repeating cycle of violence to protect the illegal drug trade.

Police routinely violate civil rights in pursuit of drug arrests.

Thousands of our neighbors in Mexico have been slaughtered by ruthless gangs.

Bankers are incentivized into money laundering.

Underground weapons markets flourish.

Perhaps worst of all, millions of young lives are destroyed by a profit-driven prison system which treats drug addiction as a criminal act, rather than a medical condition.

Admit that the War on Drugs has failed, and move towards common sense.
