The war on drugs is an abysmal failure. It's nothing more than a jobs program for cops, lawyers, judges and jailers. Just like prohibition, it's only raised the price that users pay to do what they're going to do regardless of the law...and made the dealers fabulously rich and violently protective of their business. In these tough fiscal times, do we really want to continue to waste billions of dollars on a policy that hasn't worked?
Legalize marijuana and tax it heavily. Decriminalize other more addictive drugs and use the money saved on jailer's salaries to provide treatment to users.
