End the War On Drugs and treat drug abuse as a health issue not punitive. Reduce funding from prisons to education.

The War on Drugs has failed, after 30 years, over 1 trillion dollars spent drugs are available in most urban and suburban communities. The 30 year War on Drugs has been successful in the roundup of millions of people of color for simple drug possession, creating the explosive growth of our prison system. According to Pew center, 1 in 31 adults are behind bars, on probation or parole and 1 in 28 children has an incarcerated parent. The economic toll on all communities across the country is enormous some states like Michigan are willing to spend more dollars on corrections than higher education. This is not a problem begging merely for policy reform. If we fail, as a nation, to awaken to the basic humanity of those cycling in and out of prison today, future generations will judge us harshly.
