All criminal activity in the US, Mexico, and worldwide is a direct result of prohibition and not drugs themselves. When all drugs were legal, prior to 1913 about 4% of our population was considered an addict. Now we still have 4% of our population addicted to some type of drug, but we have created a terrible prison industrial complex to punish people for medical problems. Just like alcohol, when re-legalized all the black market dealers will be gone overnight. Underage children will be protected and adults will have assume personal responsibility for their own actions. The billions of dollars wasted on the war on drugs can be used to provide medical help for those that need help quitting or controlling their drug use.
