The war on drugs is a serious problem that hasn't solved our nation's drug epidemic. If people want to use drugs, they will find a way to get them and use them, regardless of legality. The laws making these drugs illegal lock up our brothers and sisters, friends and colleagues, and defer their cost of $30,000 to $60,000 to the American taxpayers. Want to cut budgets, taxes, and end the cruel and unusual nature of prison? Remove all inmates found guilty of possession and no history of violence and maybe we won't house 25% of the world's prisoners. Drug use will not be regulated by locking up our citizens. We then need to direct the funds saved from the prison system and put the money toward building a rehabilitation program where our citizens can go, free of charge, to get treatment.
