Current corn subsidies for the production of ethanol have not helped the environment or drivers. Domestic ethanol production leads to as much pollution as burning gasoline and prices at the pump are still not competitive.
Instead the US should allow the importation of cheaper and more environmentally friendly sugarcane-based ethanol from abroad, so drivers can save and pollution can decrease.
The money saved through ending subsidies could be put toward effective alternative fuel programs and not be wasted like it is now.
