A carbon trade tariff taxes a product based upon the quantity of environmentally harmful carbon emissions created during production.
The thesis of this petition is that carbon emissions trade tariffs will disincentivize the consumption of products that create large amounts of carbon emissions (thereby curbing the onset of global warming) and create large amounts of tax revenue. It is essential that the implementation of such tariffs does not discriminate against either imports or exports via a standardized tax based upon American industry standards. This eliminates the diversion of production to areas without tariffs and encourages American companies to embrace more energy efficient means of producing goods while maintaining competitive in the international market.
