Endorse a Constitutional Amendment giving the President Line Item Veto Authority

Created by G.W. on September 24, 2011

We have many bills in which earmarks are inserted knowingly because it's all or nothing when it comes to approval. A bill supporting pay to our military can contain a provision to build an unneeded bridge or expenditures supporting some company in a small congressional district.

This has been a known problem for years. It increases government expenditures needlessly. Allow the president to veto individual expenditures and allow congress to override the veto with a 2/3 vote in each house.

This will have the effect of making bills smaller and more understandable because they will not be filled with as much pork, it will make sure only necessary expenditures make it into law and it will reduce the cost of government significantly in the future.
