We hear it on major news networks all the time. The secession petition for Massachusetts on this site says it too. 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney even said it, and he's technically a resident. It's time for people to be made aware of the correct terminology for our fair governmental entity. After that, all persons referring to Massachusetts as a "state" can be recognized as grammatically lazy, and punished as the judiciary sees fit.
