The President's Fiscal Commission, an independent, bipartisan commission, expended significant amount of time and energy developing sound, prudent bipartisan fiscal recommendations. Although nearly everyone can find something in it to dislike, that it also its beauty: the epitome of political compromise that, unlike ongoing discussions, isn't fixated on the political humiliation of foes.
Its most promising recommendation involves a more modern and simplified Internal Revenue Code, which would stop the IRS's current egregious persecutions of taxpayers whose primary offense is a failure to understand our tax laws.
It is shameful and disappointing that the President created the Commission, only to ignore its recommendations.
