The 1996 Telecommunications Act made it easier for ISP's to upgrade their infrastructure and provide low cost high speed internet to the consumer. As of now, there has not been any major infrastructure upgrades. Instead of promoting competition, it has come to the point where 1 or 2 major carriers are available in any given area. Prices for services are raised around 30% each time a merger occurs.
Its time to enforce the 1996 Telecommunications Act and get our country moving back in the right direction in the Information Superhighway.
