The domestic violence law should be better enforced and expanded to include psychological (emotional) abuse. Psychological abuse is under recognized despite the impact being just as damaging to the individual, and affects about 3 to 4 million families annually. Psychological abuse has long term effects such as chronic depression, anxiety, PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), and dissociation among many other complications. The scars of emotional and/or psychological abuse are traumatic and long lasting, and victims should be protected by the law.
