In 1983, 90% of the American media was controlled by 50 companies. In 2011, that same 90% is now controlled by 6. With the media industry being For Profit, real analysis and critical viewpoints are taking a backseat to the bottom line. Re-instate the Fairness Doctrine, because an American media industry that is balanced in it's viewpoints is going to translate to an electorate that is more informed.
For example, the 1948 Supreme Court Case, United States v. Paramount Pictures. The Supreme Court ruled that Paramount Pictures couldn't produce movies AND control what could be viewed in the theaters they owned. In this same way, I do not believe media companies should have ownership over public airwaves at the same time controlling the content we consume. We must break these companies up now!
