Enforce capital punishment in ALL states for inmates receiving at least a life-sentence; saving billions of dollars.

Created by C.D. on March 20, 2013

The US, though still the greatest nation in the world, is in need of fiscal reform. With national debt approaching $17 trillion, and state debt in the billions across the board, we need to slash spending dramatically while protecting economic growth. Both the state and federal prison system is overcrowded. With over 2 million inmates, at an annual cost of roughly $30,000+ per inmate (depending on the state), our corrections facilities expending well in excess of $60 billion per year. Over 140,000 of these inmates are serving life-terms. With mandatory capital punishment for life-sentences, the nation and states could save billions (~$5 billion+), make prisons safer, and with minimal layoffs. Though $5 billion may seem insignificant, this could pay about 300,000 college tuition bills.
