We ask the President of the United States of America to compel the Department of Justice, and in particular the Drug in Enforcement Agency, to enforce the provisions of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, its subsequent amendments, and related US Code.
Multiple States have recently passed laws to decriminalize and commercialize the sale of schedule I controlled substances (i.e., marijuana) in open defiance of US law. The President has asked the Attorney General to not enforce US laws in these States, usurping the power of Congress. This sets a precedent for future Presidents to ignore established laws they disagree with politically, and may erode the power of the Congress while diminishing the relevance of the Constitution.
