Most legal gun owners adhere to and abide by current gun regulations and laws therein. It's well documented that crime, specifically violent crime goes down with legal owners allowed to not only own but carry their weapons in their defense of property and life. Arguably, legal gun ownership and concealed carry benefit local crime and there is research to support the claim by both FBI and NRC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry_in_the_United_States#Resear...).
