IDEA guarantees that children with disabilities will receive a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. It has consequences built in that are not being enforced when schools disregard the law. The complaint process can take years and the child's chance of going on to further education, employment and independent living is diminished.
We ask that this guarantee be enforced.
The complaint process must be simplified. The investigation must be complete and the timeline must be shortened. The consequences to breaking IDEA must be enforced.
Our children deserve a chance to become productive and independent adults.
