Kratom is not FDA approved for human consumption and is known to be highly addictive. Due to it not being a regulated substance there is a wide range of unknown and dangerous effects when used for consumption and there is currently no other active use for kratom. Also, due to it being highly addictive the results of withdrawal after discontinued use is relative to that of opiate withdrawal and highly dangerous for its user.
