My wife has been trying to apply for a teaching job at the tribal school she personally attended as a child. She is qualified and has a teaching certification from the State of Maine. Since completing her BS in Elementary Education six years ago, she has only been offered substitute teaching and part-time tutoring work. She currently works as an educational technician. Non-natives were offered the teaching jobs and some were given time to work on their credentials. My wife should have been provided the same opportunity but was not given the same treatment. Please support this petition so that the current administration understands that its federal mandate to consider Native American preference in hiring needs to be enforced. We need more qualified tribal members employed on tribal lands.
