Enforce Native American Preference in Hiring where Federal Agencies Provide Funding and Service on Tribal Trust Lands

Created by M.C. on April 04, 2013

Maine Indian Education receives funding from the Bureau of Indian Education and is part of the US Department of Interior Indian Affairs. A Passamaquoddy tribal member who has earned a BS degree in Elementary Education, passed two required PRAXIS exams, and certified by the State of Maine has been continually denied employment as a teacher since 2006. Despite a Native American preference in hiring, the tribal member is being discriminated against by the school board and the superintendent of the Maine Indian Education. Sign and support this petition, so the White House can uphold and direct federal agencies to uphold and enforce Native American preference in hiring. The school where the tribal member wants to work predominantly employs non-natives as teachers.
