People with disabilities often rely on hired workers to assist them. State agencies are not conducting adequate screening of workers. Just recently a horrendous incident took place on Long Island, NY at a group home where workers abused disabled individuals. I propose that individuals assigned for the purpose of caring for a special needs person at home, in day care centers, group homes and/or those assigned for living assistance with personal care outings, be psychologically screened with annual follow ups. Government, as well as all man kind, has an obligation to protect those who cannot protect themselves. The rise in autism means an increase in individuals that will require living assistance. Government and society must do all we can to protect those that need protecting.
