It is important that teenagers in the United States are taught sex education in school. This means not only teaching abstinence, which is taught in over 30% of schools, but also about safe sex. Learning about being abstinent is good but teenagers also need to know that if they do have sex, there is a safe way to do it. This is important to teach because it could lower the rate of teen pregnancy as well as the rate of sexually transmitted diseases. By teaching students about safe sex we are allowing them and encouraging to make smart decisions. We are also not in denial that teenagers will have sex and that is why they need to have every opportunity to be prepared.
